ASEAN NETWORK NEWS | President Prabowo Subianto described the Abadi Masela Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project, one of Indonesia's National Strategic Projects (PSN), as a landmark development that has been anticipated for nearly three decades before finally entering the construction phase.
Speaking virtually from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta during the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Prabowo said the project marks a major milestone in Indonesia's long-term energy development agenda.
He emphasized that the project must proceed according to schedule so it can quickly deliver tangible benefits to the public while strengthening the country's energy security. The President noted that after waiting for almost 30 years, the commencement of construction represents an important achievement for Indonesia's strategic infrastructure development.
The Abadi Masela LNG project is expected to play a vital role in supporting Indonesia's energy resilience and economic transformation. With an investment valued at approximately US$20.9 billion, the project is projected to produce more than nine million tons of LNG and condensate, providing a significant boost to industrial development and downstream processing initiatives.
Prabowo also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders whose collaboration made the project possible, describing the groundbreaking as the result of years of perseverance and cooperation. He stressed that successful implementation of the project would contribute to Indonesia's ambition of becoming a more industrialized and energy-secure nation.
