ASEAN NETWROK NEWS | Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has sent a message of condolence to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto following the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on August 15, 2026. Pezeshkian also expressed Iran’s readiness to provide humanitarian and medical assistance to communities affected by the disaster.
The message was delivered on August 16, as Indonesian authorities continued search, rescue, evacuation, and disaster-relief operations in affected areas.
In his message, Pezeshkian expressed sympathy to the Indonesian government and people, particularly the families of those killed and residents affected by the earthquake.
“I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to you, President Prabowo, as well as to the people and Government of Indonesia, especially to the bereaved and affected families,” Pezeshkian said, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
Pezeshkian also said Iran was prepared to provide assistance to Indonesia, including humanitarian and medical aid.
“During this difficult time, while expressing our readiness to send humanitarian or medical assistance, I pray that Almighty God grants mercy and forgiveness to those who lost their lives, a speedy recovery to those injured, and patience and strength to the survivors,” he said.
He also expressed hope that conditions and stability in the earthquake-affected areas would be restored as soon as possible.
The earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara caused fatalities, injuries, damage to buildings and displacement in several areas.
According to data released by Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on August 17, 2026, at least 68 people had died and 213 others were injured. Authorities continued to collect and verify information from the affected areas, meaning the figures could still change.
BNPB Acting Head of the Data, Information and Disaster Communication Center Berton SP Panjaitan said the agency was continuing to monitor developments and update casualty figures.
The fatalities were reported across several areas, including East Manggarai and Ngada regencies. Government agencies and disaster-response teams continued search and rescue operations, evacuation efforts, data collection and distribution of assistance to affected residents.
Indonesian authorities continue to respond to the impact of the East Nusa Tenggara earthquake, while search, rescue and casualty-verification efforts remain underway.
Iran’s offer of humanitarian and medical assistance was conveyed as an expression of solidarity with Indonesia. Further information regarding whether and how the assistance will be delivered remains subject to official announcements.
